Libaec provides fast loss-less compression of 1 up to 32 bit wide signed or unsigned integers (samples). The library achieves best results for low entropy data as often encountered in space imaging instrument data or numerical model output from weather or climate simulations. While floating point representations are not directly supported, they can also be efficiently coded by grouping exponents and mantissa. Libaec implements Golomb Rice coding as defined in the Space Data System Standard documents 121.0-B-2 and 120.0-G-2. Libaec includes a free drop-in replacement for the SZIP library (http://www.hdfgroup.org/doc_resource/SZIP).
libAfterImage is a generic image manipulation library. It was initially implemented to address AfterStep Window Manager's needs for image handling, but it evolved into extremely powerful and flexible software, suitable for virtually any project that has needs for loading, manipulating, displaying images, as well as writing images in files. Most of the popular image formats are supported using standard libraries, with XCF, XPM, PPM/PNM, BMP, ICO, TGA and GIF being supported internally. PNG, JPEG and TIFF formats are supported via standard libraries. Powerful text rendering capabilities included, providing support for TrueType fonts using FreeType library, and anti-aliasing of standard fonts from X window system.

The Linux-native asynchronous I/O facility ("async I/O", or "aio") has a richer API and capability set than the simple POSIX async I/O facility. This library, libaio, provides the Linux-native API for async I/O. The POSIX async I/O facility requires this library in order to provide kernel-accelerated async I/O capabilities, as do applications which require the Linux-native async I/O API.
